About Me

Hi, I'm Paul Roome

I am an Associate Marriage & Family Therapist based in Los Angeles, working with individuals and couples navigating addiction, trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, identity development, life transitions, and the complexities of modern life. My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and grounded in evidence-based practices, creating a space where insight leads to meaningful and lasting change.

Whether you're seeking personal growth, healing from past experiences, strengthening your relationship, or rebuilding after crisis, therapy offers an opportunity to move beyond survival and toward a more connected, authentic, and fulfilling life.

Before becoming a therapist, I spent over two decades working in the film and television industry as a set decorator and creative professional. I understand the pressures of creative industries — the instability, perfectionism, performance demands, identity confusion, burnout, and loneliness that can exist beneath outward success.

My own life has included significant change, recovery, grief, and reinvention. Those experiences deeply inform the way I sit with clients today.

I earned my Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University Los Angeles and currently work with adults struggling with substance use, trauma, anxiety, shame, relational difficulties, and nervous system dysregulation.

My work integrates relational therapy, psychodynamic insight, trauma-informed care, mindfulness, attachment theory, somatic awareness, and recovery-oriented approaches. I am particularly passionate about helping LGBTQ+ clients, creatives, and people who have spent years surviving by disconnecting from themselves. In addition to my clinical work, I am currently pursuing certification in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and am a CSAT Candidate working toward certification as a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist.

Therapy with me is thoughtful, direct, compassionate, and deeply collaborative.

I do not believe people are broken.

I believe people adapt — and sometimes those adaptations eventually begin to cost more than they protect.

In addition to my clinical work, I volunteer as a Resource Associate with Teen Line, a peer-to-peer crisis hotline for teenagers. I receive additional supervision and training in adolescent mental health and crisis intervention from Cheryl Erskin, LMFT (#39072). This work helps me remain closely connected to the evolving emotional and psychological challenges facing teens and young adults today.
